About the Audit

Taking Account 4 (TA4) is the social and economic audit of the community and voluntary sector in Brighton and Hove. It is repeated approximately every five years and is led by Community Works in partnership with statutory, academic, private and voluntary and community sector stakeholders.

What does the survey ask about?

The 2018/19 survey collects information about the size, scope and the economic, social and environmental value of the local community and voluntary sector.

Who should complete the survey?

The survey should be completed by the lead representative of your organisation, or someone delegated to complete it by that individual. You may need to call on colleagues with knowledge of your organisation’s finance, staffing and volunteering to help you. Please complete only one survey per organisation.

If your organisation is part of a group structure or branch of a larger organisation, please answer the questions on behalf of your part / branch only.

How do I complete the survey?

The survey should take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. Please use a PC or Mac web browser – small devices (phones and tablets) should be avoided as they will not display the survey correctly.

You can pause completion and return to it – just remember to press the ‘finish later’ button. This will enable you to email a survey link to yourself for future reference so that you can complete it later (please check spam filters for messages from ‘’ if you haven’t received a link after saving).

If you have any alternative communication needs (text phone, sign language, language other than English) or require a paper version of the survey please contact us and we will endeavour to meet your needs.

What information will help me to complete the survey?

To speed things up, it may be helpful if you have to hand relevant information about your group or organisation. This might include the following information:

  • Your organisation’s charity or registered company number (if relevant)
  • Your most recent annual report
  • Up to date information about your staff
  • Up to date information about the people who volunteer with your organisation
  • Any significant recent monitoring and evaluation reports
  • Most recent set of annual accounts.

Where can I get more information?

For more information about TA4 please don’t hesitate to contact me.

As a thank you for taking part, we will enter you into a draw to win one of five £50 high-street vouchers.  Good Luck!

Many thanks
